Who Do You Call When the House Is Full?

By Jem Mathieson

Your client signed the paperwork. The house is still full of fifty years of belongings, and nobody wants to open the first drawer.

The house is where files stall

You've seen it. The will is in order, the lawyer is ready, the buyer is lined up, and the file sits. The holdup isn't legal or financial. It's a garage nobody can face.

Every month that house stays full costs your client taxes, utilities and insurance. It also delays everything you need to close.

Your clients freeze for a reason

They have jobs, kids and their own homes to run. Now they also have a parent's house, a grieving family and a list of decisions nobody trained them to make.

Most don't need a pep talk. They need someone steady to take the weight.

That's my job

I'm Jem. I clear and sort family homes in Edmonton, Sherwood Park and the surrounding area. I work two ways at once, and I won't trade one for the other.

I protect what matters. Before I move anything, I listen. I find the photos, letters, recipes and odd little items that carry a family's story, and I set them aside for the people who want them.

I move fast. I write a plan with a schedule, work room by room, and record every decision. Movers, cleaners, donation pickups and disposal run on one plan, so your client isn't chasing five companies.

What your client gets

  • One point of contact
  • A written plan before work starts
  • Significant items documented, with decisions recorded
  • Independent appraisals arranged for items that may carry real value, so nothing worth money gets donated or dumped
  • A clear, clean property at handover

For out-of-town executors, I'm the local hands. They stay in the loop without flying in.

What I don't do

I don't give legal, tax or financial advice, and I don't replace anyone on your team. You stay in your lane, and I stay in mine.

Why referring me is easy

You hand over one phone number, and your client gets a calm person who explains the plan in plain language. Your file keeps moving, and your client remembers who made a hard season easier.

You look good, and you didn't spend an hour of your own week managing a clear-out.

Have a listing that needs a clear-out?

Picture the one that comes to mind. Send me the general area and the deadline — call (587) 222-4958 or email hello@alberta-estate.com — and I'll tell you within one business day what I'd do and what it would take.

Next Step

Tell us about your family's next chapter.

Every engagement begins with a private, no-obligation conversation. We listen first, then set out a clear plan in writing.
